Never email a real customer from a test site again
Choose what happens to every email your site produces:
- Log and send — business as usual, everything is logged and delivered.
- Log only — mails are captured in full and never leave the server. Perfect for a staging site or a freshly cloned production database.
- Redirect to test address — everything is delivered to you (or your whole team, comma separated) instead of to the real recipients, while the log still shows who each mail was meant for.
One setting, applied to Joomla core and every third party extension at once. Nothing to configure per extension, nothing to remember to switch back on.
Cleans up after itself
A busy site logs a lot of mail. The new Task Scheduler routine purges old mails automatically — by age, by count, or both — and removes their attachment files from disk at the same time.
Tell it to keep failed sends for debugging, or to spare anything you have not read yet, and let it run daily. Your log stays useful and your database stays small.
Download any email as .eml
Export a caught message complete and unmodified, then open it in Thunderbird, Outlook or Apple Mail, forward it to a deliverability service, or attach it to a support ticket. A new Headers tab shows the raw MIME header, so you can check Reply-To, Content-Type, encoding or any custom header your extension adds.
Find the one email you are looking for
Filter by date range, by mailer, by sending status, by delivered or intercepted, and by read or unread. Search by subject, body, sender, recipient or IP address, or jump straight to a mail by its ID. Mark mails read or unread in bulk.
Unread counter where you will see it
A tile on your administrator dashboard shows how many caught mails you have not read. Click it and you land in the list, already filtered. No more remembering to go and look.

The administrator interface is fully translated into 23 languages, including Arabic, Hebrew and Persian with proper right to left support, plus Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Thai, Hindi and the major European languages.
Safer and faster
Caught HTML mail is now rendered in a sandboxed frame, so a malicious email can never run scripts in your administrator session. Attachment downloads are locked to their own mail. New database indexes keep the list and the dashboard quick even after hundreds of thousands of logged mails.

Frequently asked questions
Will Mail Catcher stop my site from sending emails?
Not unless you ask it to. Out of the box, and after an upgrade from an earlier version, mail is logged and delivered exactly as before. Holding mail back or redirecting it is a single option you choose yourself.
Does it catch emails sent by cron jobs and CLI commands?
Yes. Mail Catcher hooks into the Joomla mailer itself, so mail from the site, the administrator, the API and CLI commands is all caught — including mail sent by the Joomla Task Scheduler.
How many domains can I install and use Mail Catcher?
Unlimited. You can install and use Mail Catcher in as many domains as you wish. However, support is only given to the number of domains associated with your subscription level (01 domain).
Is Mail Catcher fully open source?
Yes. Mail Catcher is 100% open source extension.
Am I able to keep using Mail Catcher after my subscription expired?
Yes. But you will not be able to access our support and updates (bug fixes, new features).
I don't have PayPal account, how can I pay?
PayPal allows you to pay with your credit cards without having to have a PayPal account. When you are in PayPal checkout page, click on the link "Don't have a PayPal account" then fill in your credit card details there. There will be an option for you to create a new PayPal account, but that is not required.
As a paid subscriber, how many questions/tickets can I ask/create?
Unlimited. We love to assist you and we are here to help therefore we don't limit your questions/support tickets number.
