Double booking of the same unit

We have a WP / Solidres reservation site which has 40 accommodation units which are rented out normally for only 1 or at most 2 nights at a time - consequently we have a high volume of bookings.
Over the last few weeks we have been close to fully occupied and have unfortunately ended up with a few instances where units have been double booked.
It appears that if 2 users search for a unit and then make the booking at exactly the same time only 1 booking is saved in the system - the payment for both is taken but only one changes status.
Has anybody else encountered this and is there any way to resolve it?
In woocommerce etc if I use stock control before the payment is processed WC does a final check on stock level and if for any reason it has fallen below what the customer is buying it doesnt allow payment to be made - can SolidRes not be coded to check the unit is still available before it is booked?

Technically, two users could not book at the same time exactly (same hour same minute same seconds). Who book and pay first will get the rooms, then the booked room will not be available for the later user.
