I ended up doing a test update on a copy of the site, and (eventually) it went smoothly. I removed pretty much every third party extension, aside from Solidres and Akeeba Backup, and bumped up the maxexecutiontime in my PHP.ini to 300.

Once tested I did the same on the live site - backed up, ran the Joomla 4 update, then updated Solidres and all the plugins/modules & template (although I use a Gantry 5 based template which I think has more flexibility).

I've had 1 error, when updating a room type - it was to do with the created_date field being empty. I went in the MySQL dbase and stuck a date in there and it works correctly now.
