[3.0.0] Minimum Requirements was created by joomleb
Hi guys,
- Joomla 5 releasing began, the Beta is out and the stable is expected for October 2023.
- PHP 7.4 is and 8.0 will be end-of-life (EOL) soon without security updates or bug fixes.
- Because of that Joomla 5 will require PHP 8.1 and it is really a boost on sites performances.
Would not be better for you (developer and Solidres software itself) and us (user experience) to release Solidres 3 stable directly with PHP 8.1 as Minimum Requirements?

Hi,
Below are facts that we'd need to consider:
+ Joomla 4 EOL is Oct 2025 (more than 2 years from now): developer.joomla.org/roadmap.html
+ PHP 8.1 usage is about 2%: developer.joomla.org/about/stats.html
Joomla 4 is still the main version until 2025, it is recommended.
Solidres always supports latest PHP versions. But making PHP 8.1 a minimum version requirement is not practical, at least for now.
We will revise the PHP version requirement when it is necessary.
Regards,

Hi,
sure and thank you for your detailed answer.
Anyway, in the facts that you need to consider, about the developer.joomla.org/about/stats.html
Be careful:
+ Statistics could/can include a lot of "tests" sites. The Joomla 4.0 to 3.13% could be the "case".
+ Unfortunately, often Joomla is used to build a site that is sold as it is. This explain the quantities of outdated Joomla versions.
+ it should not be the Solidres case, because Solidres is a complex extension that need to be always up to date to minimize errors.
+ probably, quite sure, your active subscribers are running last up to date Joomla stable version.
+ Solidres 3.x will run ONLY on Joomla 4 (and above)
+ You should consider PHP 8.1 and 8.2
So, "PHP 8.1 usage is about 2%:", it is not "true", probably right now we are speaking about something like:
- 35% if we consider Joomla 4.0 and above
- 100% if we consider Joomla 4.3 and above
sure and thank you for your detailed answer.
