I needed to have the advanced search module (horizontal) to work with one preselected category, without the dropdown list.
So, I've amended your module to work as I like also.
I'm happy to share this with your community. Maybe someone else like it.
So, here you are the files that I've changed.
If you like, you should adopt them for the next release.
