Google Map Icons based on Categories rather than Rating

I just wonder if it is possible to program google map to display icons of assets based on their category rather than based on no. of stars as the case currently.
Of course there is filtering at the front page, but quick distinguish of properties directly from the map from the icon associated with them is also a good way.
